Celebrating a decade of design and style in Hong Kong is BoConcept, the Danish furniture brand that’s all about high-quality, functional products for the home. We find out what’s in store for their anniversary year and hear how their interior design services team helped two renowned Hong Kong personalities create their perfect home and office spaces.
A New Collection
One exciting happening is the launch of the new Bolzano Kollektion. Satisfying recent organic trends for curved lines and sculpted shapes, this capsule comprises a three-seater and 2.5-seater sofa, plus an armchair and chaise lounge. It’s designed by Morten Georgsen, whose 25 years with BoConcept have seen him produce timeless, minimalist pieces with an elegant functionality.
The organic round silhouette of the Bolzano Kollektion pairs curvaceous frames and puffed-up seats with cosy, inviting textures, among them a new fabric for the 2023 season: Lazio Brown bouclé in calming neutral shades. If your living space has lots of straight lines, these gentle curves will add plenty of interest, while also creating a calm, serene vibe – all components of Danish hygge, too.
Home & Office Styling
While BoConcept has been around for 70 years, it arrived in Hong Kong in 2013, and since then has been a hit with style-conscious shoppers and homeowners.
Among them is actor Chrissie Chau, who called on BoConcept’s custom-made and interior design consulting services to help create her new living space.
Her professional in-store consultation with the team led to the realisation of Chrissie’s dream home: a place with light tones, a natural atmosphere and colours embellished by memories and experiences in the form of souvenirs from travels and her own paintings.
Highlights include the Bergamo L-shaped sofa, placed near the window to capture natural light, which Chrissie customised by changing from a four- to three-seater and removing the armrests. BoConcept consultants also suggested a high-wearing fabric (from more than 120 different options!) on account of the actor’s beloved cats. Elsewhere, the Hauge dining table in natural oak wood creates a comfortable, natural atmosphere in the dining area, and the Copenhagen wall system provides flexible storage with a super stylish look.
Similarly, Hong Kong influencer Mayao Ma recently turned to BoConcept for design inspiration for his new office in Sheung Wan. A long-time fan of the brand, Mayao was surprised by how well the team were able to cater to his preference for unique textures and colours.
After coming up with three-dimensional drawings of the playful yet practical look he was after, his office was decked out in items including a Hampton sofa in a beautiful dusty rose Leeds fabric, a bright light green Dublin chair and footstool, a Vienna chair for Mayao’s personal creation space, and, like Chrissie, the Copenhagen wall system for elegant-looking storage solutions. Everything was customised from BoConcept’s huge range of options – the materials alone stretch from felt and velvet, to aniline leather, oak, walnut, chrome and steel, with a vast range of fabrics and colours on top of that (and regular new releases).
Beyond 10
The BoConcept team says that for the past decade it has stayed true to its aim of providing good quality furniture for urban dwellers who appreciate access to functional products. Since Hong Kong has the striking mix of being a “concrete jungle” yet surrounded by a lovely natural environment, they also point out their relevance to both a Metropolitan and a Scandinavian audience. And they also stay on top of changing interior trends – like the current move towards natural elements in furniture that can be seen today.
Now, they’re working towards adding more services to the business model, emphasising collaboration and interaction in the lifestyle space.
