The Altfield Interiors team tell us about six home styling pieces and trends we’ll be seeing everywhere in the year ahead! There’s everything from wall coverings and warm tones to Scandi design and Japandi style textiles.
#1 An evolution on Scandi design and Japandi style
These minimalist trends are characterised by a very limited colour palette and open interiors. We see this starting to move into something more cosy and cocooning. For example, with the addition of textures and soft patterns in furnishings using three dimensional weaves, with an artisanal feeling. These new Pollack fabrics are a perfect example of this.
#2 Rounded and soft furniture
Upholstered furniture has taken a new direction with a focus on organic and rounded forms covered in plush soft fabrics like those from Pierre Frey. These fantastic new fabrics have stretch features woven in. This makes them ideal for furniture that’s large and with rounded arms and backs.
#3 Home styling sustainably
Clean manufacturing has a strong influence on design decisions these days. We are seeing a strong movement towards using natural renewable fibres such as wool, linen and cotton. These breathe which creates a healthier environment.
#4 Textured walls
Although Hong Kong homes tend to be small, we’re seeing people gravitate to textured walls as a feature. Particularly wall coverings using natural fibres such as grass cloths, or silk or suede finishes. These materials add a layer of warmth to a space and also help reduce sound. We particularly like the new Innovations embroidered suede which will be a popular choice in 2025.
#5 Warm colours
Expect to see different shades of earthy, warm and spicy hues in home styling over the coming year. Foe example, cinnamon, coral, gold and ginger. Adding these warm colours to what are often very monochrome interiors in HK can really freshen your space and help you move away from the grey and white styles popular a few years ago.
#6 Bringing nature in
Think living plants, accent cushions and chairs with printed or embroidered leaves and flowers. The fact is, greens reduce stress and increase the feeling of happiness in a space. We expect people to look for fabrics like the ones from Pierre Frey to uplift their furniture and add a pop of colour to a neutral space.
Visit the showroom
It can be difficult to get a sense of how these new colour palettes, textures, fabric types and shapes can come together by only looking online. Instead, check out the latest collections from brands across the world in person at the large multi-line Altfield Showroom in Central.
Here you can feel the textiles, wall coverings and Italian leathers and see how they look against each other, and with different trimmings, lighting and hardware products. The team can also run you through their design, tailoring and upholstery services covering everything from cushions and sofas to curtains.
You’ll leave with loads of exciting ideas for your home, courtesy of professionals who are knowledgeable about designing spaces in Hong Kong and the importance of quality and timeless décor.
