SUMMARY:PMQ Taste Library's All-New Guest Curator
DESCRIPTION:PMQ has launched the newly reimagined Guest Curator Project\, a year-long cultural initiative that transforms the PMQ Taste Library – the first library and creative hub dedicated to Hong Kong food culture – into a dynamic platform for creativity\, storytelling and community engagement. The project invites three local creative forces to reimagine the library through distinct perspectives\, exploring the intersections of culinary arts\, lifestyle\, and reading. \nThe inaugural chapter\, Treasured Recipes\, co-curated with Word by Word Collective\, opened on 3 July. This exhibition celebrates the cultural significance of cookbooks and recipe archives through a selection of rare and out-of-print international cookbooks\, alongside previously unseen private recipe collections from pioneering HK culinary figures and celebrity chefs. Together\, these materials offer visitors a glimpse into the personal histories\, traditions\, and creative practices that have shaped the city’s food culture. \nComplementing the exhibition is a programme of public events designed to deepen audience engagement. Highlights include live recreations of historic recipes\, curator-led guided tours\, and a special Book Party celebrating the stories and communities behind culinary publishing. \nAt the same time\, visitors can also explore PICTURE BⓄⓞⓄⓞⓄKS at the adjacent PMQ Picture Book Library. Curated by Benny Lau\, the exhibition examines the physical language of picture books\, highlighting the expressive qualities of paper textures\, formats\, bindings and page sequencing to reveal how book design shapes the reading experience.

SUMMARY:Ren Zhe's Wuxia Sculpture Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Visitors to Mong Kok can now encounter legendary characters from Jin Yong’s famous wuxia novels through a new public art installation by Chinese sculptor Ren Zhe. The exhibition places three groups of large-scale stainless-steel sculptures at Langham Place and Cordis\, Hong Kong\, allowing residents and travellers to experience art outside traditional museum settings. \nThe sculptures depict well-known characters including Yang Guo and Xiaolongnü\, Guo Jing and Huang Rong\, and Linghu Chong and Ren Yingying. Inspired by stories of courage\, loyalty\, friendship and love\, the artworks transform literary characters into striking three-dimensional forms. Visitors familiar with Jin Yong’s novels may recognise these heroes immediately\, while international audiences can appreciate the emotions and stories expressed through the sculptures without prior knowledge of the books. \nBorn in Beijing in 1983\, Ren Zhe spent six years developing this wuxia sculpture project. Working with a team of more than 60 people and creating over 1\,000 sketches\, he has produced nearly 50 sculptures as part of a larger plan to portray 100 characters from Jin Yong’s literary world. \nThe installation highlights how public spaces can become places for cultural discovery and reflection.

SUMMARY:Fading Out/In: Designed to Remember
DESCRIPTION:Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC)\, supported by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA)\, presents Fading Out/In\, which explores how design can help preserve cultural memories that are gradually disappearing from everyday life. Curated by Eddy Yu\, Hung Lam and Vivienne Yu\, it examines the connection between Hong Kong’s past and present through a wide range of creative works inspired by local traditions\, objects\, sounds\, architecture\, crafts and daily experiences. \nThe exhibition is divided into two main sections. The Memory Zone focuses on familiar elements of Hong Kong life\, such as neon signs\, mahjong sounds\, traditional packaging\, local shops\, food culture and language. Through installations\, multimedia displays\, sound experiences and miniature recreations\, visitors are encouraged to reflect on how ordinary objects and experiences contribute to a shared cultural identity. \nThe Transformation Zone\, meanwhile\, looks at how designers reinterpret heritage for modern audiences. Exhibits showcase how traditional practices and cultural symbols can be adapted into contemporary design\, fashion\, digital art and other creative expressions while maintaining their cultural significance. \nAn interactive area at the end of the exhibition allows visitors to vote for the aspects of Hong Kong culture they would most like to see preserved for future generations.
