SUMMARY:Fading Out/In: Designed to Remember
DESCRIPTION:Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC)\, supported by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA)\, presents Fading Out/In\, which explores how design can help preserve cultural memories that are gradually disappearing from everyday life. Curated by Eddy Yu\, Hung Lam and Vivienne Yu\, it examines the connection between Hong Kong’s past and present through a wide range of creative works inspired by local traditions\, objects\, sounds\, architecture\, crafts and daily experiences. \nThe exhibition is divided into two main sections. The Memory Zone focuses on familiar elements of Hong Kong life\, such as neon signs\, mahjong sounds\, traditional packaging\, local shops\, food culture and language. Through installations\, multimedia displays\, sound experiences and miniature recreations\, visitors are encouraged to reflect on how ordinary objects and experiences contribute to a shared cultural identity. \nThe Transformation Zone\, meanwhile\, looks at how designers reinterpret heritage for modern audiences. Exhibits showcase how traditional practices and cultural symbols can be adapted into contemporary design\, fashion\, digital art and other creative expressions while maintaining their cultural significance. \nAn interactive area at the end of the exhibition allows visitors to vote for the aspects of Hong Kong culture they would most like to see preserved for future generations.
