Hong Kong business Kidvolio is all about keeping the magic of childhood alive by preserving and transforming your children’s paintings and artwork into a keepsake book. We hear more from co-founder QUEENIE SUEN.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how Kidvolio came to life?
I’m a mum of two – a four-and-a-half-year-old and a two year-old – with a background in design and creativity. We first discovered the idea of turning children’s artwork into lasting keepsakes while exploring creative parenting concepts overseas. It’s an inspiring idea that we noticed had been embraced in several countries. Yet it was still unfamiliar where we live.
Around the same time, our son began gifting us his drawings. We were struck by how quickly those charming scribbles piled up – each one capturing a unique moment in his growth.
That’s when it all clicked! We knew this was something worth bringing home, and Kidvolio was born.
What are the specific services you offer?
We turn your child’s artwork into a beautifully crafted, high-quality keepsake book, so you can treasure these precious childhood moments forever. And we help you preserve that artwork effortlessly. As working parents ourselves, we know what weekdays look like: after a long day at work, there’s homework, bedtime routines, and maybe just a little “me time”. And weekends?
They’re packed with family outings, classes and playdates. Who really has time to photograph, scan, sort and design a keepsake book?
That’s why we take care of everything – from collecting and photographing the art, to editing, designing and printing custom keepsake books. We also offer a range of personalised products like cushions and oven mittens, all created from your child’s artwork.
All you have to do is pack the artwork in our Magic Art Box (which is delivered to your doorstep) – and we handle the rest. After we’ve worked our magic, you’ll receive a digital proof to review and approve for print.
Why is now a good time for a parent to act when it comes to preserving their children’s paintings and drawings?
We totally get it – the moment your child brings home a cute drawing, your first thought is, “This is so sweet, I’ll definitely keep it and do something with it later.” But let’s be honest: later often doesn’t happen! Life gets busy, and those meaningful little masterpieces end up tucked away in a folder, or scattered in drawers and forgotten.
Some parents feel like they’ve done their part just by saving the originals. However, over time, colours fade, papers get damaged or things get lost. (That’s especially true with how often people move in Hong Kong!) We turn your child’s artwork into a beautifully designed, high-quality keepsake book that you’ll actually enjoy looking through. It’s a meaningful way to revisit those special moments – without the clutter. And, just in case anything ever goes missing, we’ve got you covered. We provide digital files of every piece for you to download, so the memories are always backed up and ready to be reprinted or shared.
How is Kidvolio different from just taking photos or using a folder app?
If snapping photos or uploading to an app worked, you’d probably have done it by now. The truth is, it takes time, patience and technical skill to do it well. What’s more, the result often doesn’t feel quite right.
We retouch each photo to match the original artwork almost exactly, ensuring colours and textures are preserved beautifully. And unlike flat scanning or folder apps, we also handle 3D artwork – the clay pieces, collages and craft projects that can’t just be flattened and forgotten. Our process captures the spirit and detail of each piece. That means you can preserve your child’s creativity the way it deserves to be remembered.
What are your main aims for Kidvolio?
Our biggest aim is to help shift the mindset around children’s art – especially here in Hong Kong, where space is tight and the tendency is to toss things that don’t seem essential.
But children’s artwork is more than just paper. It’s a window into their world, their development and their imagination. We want to help parents see that value. Letting kids draw freely isn’t just creative play – it’s an important part of their growth, and it deserves to be honoured. We hope to inspire families to preserve these moments meaningfully, and turn what once felt like clutter into a treasured legacy. We do believe that, many years later, you will thank yourself for doing this.
