Hebe Haven Yacht Club in Hong Kong is celebrating women on the water at the Leo Wealth Steering the Course Women’s Sailing Festival. The event will be held over six days in late May and early June. Whether you’re a sailing novice or semi-professional, there’s plenty to pique your interest. We find out more about the festival here!
5 things about the Leo Wealth Steering the Course Women’s Sailing Festival 2025
#1 A global movement
Steering the Course is a global initiative of World Sailing, the governing body for the sport of sailing recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee. It’s designed to provide opportunities for women worldwide to get into sailing and explore pathways into coaching and race management.
One way it does this is through events. Among them is the Leo Wealth Steering the Course Women’s Sailing Festival, which this year is being hosted for the fifth time by Hebe Haven Yacht Club in Hong Kong. It’ll take place from 27 May to 1 June at Hebe Haven in Sai Kung. Dedicated event sponsors include Leo Wealth, Grandtech International Engineering Limited, and Sense of Touch.
#2 Taster sessions
Sailing is one of the most inclusive sports, enjoyed by people of all ages, genders and abilities. It can be enjoyed as a recreational hobby and also at the highest competitive levels. The fifth anniversary of the festival will celebrate this by holding fun sailing taster sessions to engage new participants and provide an excellent introduction for those interested in learning to sail.
Of particular note is the presence at the festival of MoHan. This sailing boat plays a significant role in the accessible and therapeutic sailing programs organised by Sailability Hong Kong. The latter is an independently funded charitable organisation hosted at HHYC, which has collaborated with the club on various activities to mark the Women’s Sailing Festival. There’s a MoHan Taster Sailing Session on 28 May, where you can find out more about the boat and the opportunities it provides for sailors with disabilities and special education needs.
#3 Upskilling on the water
Another highlight of the festival is the Race Management Training Day (29 May). Here, experienced sailors and active club members can shadow current race officials to learn a wide range of skills, such as selecting the best courses for competitors and also adjusting them based on weather and sea conditions, plus ensuring well-organised, fair and enjoyable events while maintaining safety.
#4 Race Day!
The sailing festival will conclude on Sunday 1 June with the Leo Wealth Hong Kong Open Ladies’ / Girls’ Champs Regatta 2025. The regatta is open to female crews sailing keelboats of different classes and divisions, including PHS Division big boats, Onedesign Classes (J/80, DC29), and Dinghy Classes (RS Quest, Hansa 303, Optimist).
#5 What else is on at this sailing festival?
Expect lots more fun throughout the Leo Wealth Steering the Course Women’s Sailing Festival 2025. For example, there’s a wine tasting, guest speakers and a ladies’ lunch to enjoy. And don’t miss the party and prize-giving ceremony after the regatta on the final day!
