We find out what to expect from a visit to the spacious Altfield Interiors showroom in Central, courtesy of the company’s managing director, AMANDA CLARK.
Tell us what a newcomer might see when they enter the home furnishing and interior showroom?
In many ways, it’s an Aladdin’s cave of colour and pattern, as we represent around 20 of the top international interior furnishing brands from across the world. You’ll find drops of fabric, tailored curtaining and blind samples, hangers and books of fabrics, and many swing arms of wall coverings ranging from grasscloth and mother-of-pearl panels, to hand-painted chinoiserie and printed contemporary patterns. There are also examples of our upholstery capabilities, from making or recovering sofas and chairs, to tailoring every possible need for the home.

Most of our brands are only available to professional interior designers in their home countries, however we’re very happy to welcome retail clients, whether they need a couple of cushions or a larger makeover of their home. Our team in the showroom includes trained designers with years of experience to help our walk-in visitors.
The aim is to offer a welcoming tactile environment where you can interact with our brands, responding to those that appeal most, while seeing, touching and getting an understanding of the products. Many people find it hard to make decisions or are unsure where to start; we hope we’ve created a good atmosphere in which to enjoy the process.
What are some of the key brands of fabrics you stock?
From England, many will know the comfortable “country house” look of Colefax & Fowler; from Italy, we have Rubelli the amazing Venetian weaving house doing modern interpretations of classic Italian style; and from France, the eclectic, artistically avant garde creations of La Maison Pierre Frey along with the delightful prints of Braquenie for that charming chateau look; while from Asia we have the world-class quality of Jim Thompson Thai silks and more.
Elsewhere, contemporary products from Pollack, Weitzner and Maya Romanoff give a more urban and distinctly American vibe, and there’s exceptional lighting and table lamps from Vaughan and Porta Romana from London, too. We also offer both Loro Piana Interiors fabrics and their fabulous throws, for perfect “quiet luxury”, and Armani Casa textiles and wallcoverings for strong fashionista glamour. Finally, there’s a small Altfield collection of classic basics in stock fabrics and wallcoverings at affordable pricing so everyone can play with their budgets and mix up high and low in their own way.
What’s new and notable in the showroom right now?
We’re having a lot of fun with the newest Pierre Frey collections launched this autumn, which include a joyously colourful and expressive group of fabrics, wallpapers and rugs designed by JeanCharles de Castelbajac – it’s so spirited and exuberant!
Altfield Interiors is at 1101, Nine Queen’s Road, Central.
