Malvern Scholarship: Academic
To me, being a Malvern Scholar is like a rainbow of emotions. I feel extremely grateful for the opportunities and experiences it has provided, and honoured to be part of the Malvern family and represent my school in all areas of academics.
The scholarship has opened doors I never thought of walking through before. It has offered me specific programmes and speakers, who have enriched my knowledge of the academic and personal aspects of being a scholar. I have also been pushed to the best of my abilities internally and externally in Malvern, challenging and enriching myself in the process.
My long-term career aspiration is to study and pursue medicine, like my parents in Hong Kong, so I can support and help people in need while also in a field which I am extremely passionate and interested in, science.
Advice for other applicants: Stay diligent and never stop trying, as if you never try, you never know the potential you have. Stop being scared or anxious to apply as you really do not have anything to lose!

Malvern Scholarship: Music
Iโm extremely honoured to be a Malvern Scholar, and the leadership opportunities it has given me to lead other young talents a step closer to their musical aspirations. These experiences include conducting performances, having the school orchestra play my original compositions and directing my own original musical. The teachers have supported me wholeheartedly, and my peers have engaged enthusiastically with my musical projects.
This year marks my 12th year performing as a soloist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and my third year performing alongside the school orchestra as a piano soloist. As a music scholar, Iโm able to practice with talented musicians to prepare for these performances.
At university, Iโd like to major in music and also humanities/political science in the US (Iโm passionate about Model United Nations, in which Iโve been a chair and an award-winning delegate at multiple conferences), or pursue a subject along the lines of history/law in the UK. My two dream professions at the moment are being a lawyer or an educator.
Advice for other applicants: Be as genuine as possible for your area of interest and explore as much as you can about it! For example, if youโre a music lover, try to go to a variety of concerts.

Malvern Scholarship: Diversity
I feel incredibly proud to have been given the opportunity to be a scholar, especially in regards to what I can contribute to the Malvern community. Among other things, the scholarship has helped raise awareness of a service trip I did to visit refugees along the Thai/Myanmar border a few months ago, helping me understand the concept of ethnic minorities in conflict on a deeper level that I could not have understood otherwise.
Outside of school, I volunteer with a HK-based charity called Crossroads Foundation every Saturday, tidying the site while also packing for goods distributions to be given to people in need.
If Iโm being honest, I have no idea what Iโd like to do when Iโm older. But I do know one thing: I want to be someone who makes a change in this world. Whether that takes the form of a biologist helping fight against climate change or an orphanage manager, I want to see change.
Advice for other applicants: Even if you donโt know if you will succeed, itโs always better to try. As former Canadian ice hockey player Wayne Gretzky said, โYou miss 100% of the shots you donโt takeโ.

Malvern Scholarship: Academic & Diversity
It feels good to be a Malvern Scholar. My parents are proud of me, I am seen as a role model (at least I think I am!), and it just feels nice to have two more badges to attach to the lapel of my blazer. Of course, it does also add a big responsibility on my shoulders to perform well, attend academic competitions, and get good grades. But, from my perspective, the benefits outweigh the responsibilities.
The scholarship has presented many opportunities, such as letting me do this interview, and join interesting activities, such as the Socratic seminar at my school, where we all debated the topic of rehabilitation in prisons; Iโve also had the chance to go to prestigious events, including the Model UN debate in Shanghai.
I would like to go to a leading university, and get a PhD in Economics or Finance, and then move to teaching. My biggest aspiration is to be a professor as an alumnus of the university where I studied my PhD.
Advice for other applicants: Just go for it. Even if you donโt think you can get it, still go for it.

Malvern Scholarship: Sports
The true reward of being a Malvern Scholar is the opportunity it provides for interacting with pupils of all ages, backgrounds, experiences, goals and interests. Being a scholar has shaped me into a more confident and capable leader, and instilled in me the drive to embrace challenges and envision a future which can contribute to the development of the community.
Through the scholarship, Iโve had the opportunity to participate in leadership and mentorship training programmes led by top global educational coaches. This has served as a stepping stone for me to explore my academic pursuits and future aspirations. Recently, I was nominated by my school for the FRI International Relations and Law Research programme, a three-month experience led and taught by Cambridge Professors. Iโm also a member of the Sixth Form Council, serving as Wellbeing Representative, and a Pupil Peer Mentor.
As for the future, Iโm keen to study something related to Global Studies and Diplomacy; for example, Law (I have shadowed at the Hong Kong Legislative Council), International Relations or International Management.
Advice for other applicants: Channel your ambition and put your all into everything you do, whether it is time, effort or commitment. The importance of obtaining a scholarship lies not in merely receiving it, but in how you utilise that opportunity to grow and contribute to both your school and the wider community.

Malvern Scholarship: Sports
I feel honoured to be able to inspire my peers and become a role model for the sporting community. This recognition as a Scholar not only helps boost my confidence but also pushes me to strive for excellence in both academics and sports. Being a part of this esteemed community has also allowed me to inspire others in the sporting realm.
The scholarship has opened numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth, such as being appointed Deputy Head of House and Sports captain for my house, and leading showcases and assemblies. The collaborative environment has fostered friendships and connections I cherish deeply.
I aspire to pursue a degree in sports science or psychology because my passion for sports has taught me a lot about the development and mindset of young athletes through coaching and mentorship.
Advice for other applicants: Set clear goals and donโt be afraid to showcase your passion in your application!
