We hear from VANNESSA MISSO-VENESS, founder of Cascade Train Teach Learn, on the benefits of bringing expat parents in Hong Kong together – including details of an upcoming parent summit on 18 October.
Parenting is hard work. In fact, parenting in our modern times of social media, screen addiction and the rising awareness of neurodivergent learning can leave some mums and dads feeling overwhelmed and downright anxious! Especially when you’re living away from extended family, your home country and the community you were once a part of.
A powerful antidote to the overwhelm is the simple act of sharing experiences. From the mums community I host and the virtual workshops I deliver, I have come to see the healing power of connection. Take for example, Lara, mother to a newborn, who recently joined our parenting community. Initially hesitant, she soon found a supportive network where she could ask advice without judgement, share wins and vent about the challenges of motherhood.
A parenting community can also offer:
- Honest conversations in a safe space to lift the fog of isolation.
- Access to expert-led workshops and talks to help parents feel empowered.
- Shared stories and helpful tips to bring you closer to feeling connected.
This October, the Thrive in Parenting Summit is a unique opportunity for families to strengthen connections in this way. The event will bring experts and parents together to foster community, encourage conversation and offer practical tools, so you don’t need to parent in isolation.
