Just in time for the holiday season, Hong Kong’s popular top-to-toe beauty spot, Glow Spa & Salon, is offering these three new facial treatments including age-defying options like microneedling, radiofrequency facial, chemical peels, organic silicon and more. EL’s Kate Woodbury went along to try one of them – hear what she thought of it below.
#1 Salmon DNA Facial Treatment
The.Salmon DNA Facial begins with a gentle chemical peel using an effective blend of lactic acid, glycolic acid, retinol plus retinal, bakuchiol, ascorbic acid and ferulic acid; together, they help to provide an immediate glow, enhancing skin tone and luminosity while also reducing imperfections.
Following the peel, two serums – Mesohyal x-DNA and Mesohyal DMAE – are administered via intradermal microneedling. This method of delivery provides deep nourishment; it’s designed to help with repair by promoting collagen synthesis, fostering skin rejuvenation and revitalising skin texture.
The first of the serums, Mesohyal xDNA, combines polynucleotides with hyaluronic acid. It’s a formulation that aims to stimulate skin tissue repair by activating cell metabolism, restoring cell proteins and enhancing dermal connective tissue. Mesohyal DMAE, meanwhile, is a solution containing dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE), which serves as a precursor to acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter associated with muscle tone. That’s a big mouthful of sciencey stuff, we know – but in short, it promotes firmness in ageing, flaccid tissue.
Benefits of polynucleotide facial treatments
- They enhance overall skin texture, tone and firmness.
- They can diminish fine lines, particularly in challenging areas like the eyes and around the mouth.
- They increase the skin’s ability to retain moisture, leading to a plumper look.
- Some users report an improvement in skin luminosity, giving a healthier, brighter complexion.
- Polynucleotides can be used to “prime” the skin before other treatments, like fillers, microneedling or laser therapy, by increasing the number of cells available for collagen production.
#2 Glass Skin Facial Treatment
The Glass Skin Facial begins with the same gentle chemical peel as the Salmon DNA Facial. Following the peel, two serums – Mesohyal Hyaluronic and Mesohyal Organic Silicon – are administered via intradermal microneedling.
Benefits of microneedling with hyaluronic acid (HA)
Microneedling creates micro-channels in the skin, which dramatically enhances the absorption and deep penetration of topical serums. When paired with hyaluronic acid, which can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, the benefits are amplified:
- It provides intense, lasting moisture to the deeper layers of the skin, resulting in a plumper and more radiant appearance.
- HA is a gentle, non-irritating ingredient that helps to calm redness and inflammation and speed up the posttreatment recovery process.
- The increased hydration helps to smooth out fine lines and gives the skin a more youthful volume.
- A moist healing environment supports the production of new collagen and elastin, which are essential for skin structure.
Benefits of microneedling with organic silicon
Organic silicon is a trace mineral vital for the body’s connective tissues and is a key structural component of collagen and elastin. When used with microneedling, it offers additional regenerative benefits, including:
- actively stimulating the production of collagen and promoting the regeneration of elastin fibres, which helps firm and tone the skin
- restoring strength, flexibility and elasticity to connective tissues, combating sagging skin
- helping fight free radicals and cell damage, slowing down the signs of premature ageing; and
- normalising cellular metabolism and acting as a tissue regenerator, which aids in skin repair and the appearance of scars.
The combination of both ingredients provides a comprehensive treatment. Hyaluronic acid provides the immediate hydration and soothing effects needed for the healing process. Organic silicon works on a deeper, structural level to support the long-term regeneration of the skin’s core building blocks (collagen and elastin).
#3 Radiofrequency Facial for Skin Firming
An RF (radiofrequency) facial is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses electromagnetic waves to heat the deeper layers of your skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production for tighter, smoother and firmer skin. It’s used to reduce wrinkles, sagging and other signs of ageing and can also improve skin texture and tone.
A new machine called a Therma Tight is used with this RF facial at Glow, delivering radiofrequency energy through the skin’s surface to heat the underlying tissue. This controlled heating causes a minor “controlled injury” to the dermis, activating the body’s natural healing response to repair the tissue. In turn, this process triggers the production of new collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, which are essential for skin structure and firmness.
Benefits of RF
The treatment helps to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, tighten sagging skin, improve overall skin tone and texture, and minimise the appearance of sun damage.
The procedure is generally well tolerated, with many describing a comfortable warming sensation. Side effects may include temporary redness and swelling, but these tend to subside quickly. Results are cumulative; it’s recommended to have four to six treatments a few weeks apart, allowing the body to produce new collagen. Visible results typically appear within two to three weeks and continue to improve over the following months.
Each of the new treatments at Glow is available as a single treatment or a course of four or six treatments, with instalment payments available over six or 12 months. Book a consultation with a Glow expert therapist to find out which treatment might be suitable for you.
Kate’s review of the Salmon DNA Facial at Glow
“After a chat about my beauty routine, Glow therapist Tamara explained the treatment and what it would entail. The first stage included a light peel using lactic acid, glycolic acid, retinol and bakuchiol to exfoliate and improve my skin’s tone and appearance. She’d warned there would be a slight sensation, but it was just a minor sting and a vague tingling – certainly not uncomfortable or painful.
She then set to work with the microchannelling, which uses a type of stamping device to act as a delivery system for the powerful polynucleotides from the salmon DNA and hyaluronic acid to penetrate the skin. This in turn stimulates collagen production for that all-important tightening effect.
After just one treatment, the results were really visible; my skin particularly around my neck was much tighter and firmer. The post treatment dewy glow lasted for about two weeks. Glow recommends a series of five or six visits to get long-lasting results. Tamara finished the session with a relaxing neck-and-shoulder massage – a welcome way to ensure you leave Glow looking and feeling great!”
