With its dazzling city skyline and glimmering harbour, Hong Kong knows how to make the night sky sparkle! Even more so during its world-famous fireworks displays for Chinese New Year, New Year’s Eve and the upcoming celebrations for National Day (1 October).
#1 Where to watch Hong Kong fireworks from Kowloon
Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade
When it comes to watching fireworks in Hong Kong, many consider the TST promenade the city’s prime location. Not only do you get a front-row view of the pyrotechnical extravaganza but you also have the background of Hong Kong’s most dramatic skyline. Obviously this isn’t a secret location, though, so come with an expectation of a crowd! Nearest MTR station: Tsim Sha Tsui
Avenue of Stars
Connecting to the TST Promenade, the Avenue of Stars is one of Hong Kong’s busiest locations year round, let alone when fireworks are going off! And there’s a good reason for it too, as you have one of the best views of the harbour from here. It’s another spot where you’ll need to get an early seat. Nearest MTR station: East Tsim Sha Tsui
Hung Hom Bypass
While it’s a busy street by day, come nightfall there’ll only be foot traffic as people flock to this raised spot for a view of the fireworks. It’s around a 20-minute walk from the MTR, and you can expect it to be a busy location. Nearest MTR station: Hung Hom
West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade and Art Park
There’ll be no pushing and shoving for a spot along this promenade that has plenty of space for all, including a lovely green patch for picnics. This is a great vantage point, particularly for families with wriggly rugrats who get impatient waiting for the show to start. It’s a pet friendly area too, in case you have a pooch that can handle loud pyrotechnics! Nearest MTR station: Kowloon
Ocean Terminal Deck
This observatory deck is a top spot for sunsets over Victoria Harbour, so it also makes a fab location to view fireworks. The open public space is on the fifth floor and has a 270-degree view. Check the Harbour City website (harbourcity. com.hk) for details and ticketing information. Nearest MTR station: Tsim Sha Tsui
#2 Hong Kong Island viewing spots for fireworks
Central Ferry Piers
These elevated vantage points offer uninterrupted views of the harbour and are in a central location so you can easily grab some dinner and do some shopping before the show. If you want to make this National Day or New Year’s extra special, buy tickets to the Hong Kong Observation Wheel. Nearest MTR station: Central
Golden Bauhinia Square
If you’re not fussed about getting the very best spot to see fireworks in Hong Kong and prefer a less crowded area, this square in Wan Chai is a great alternative location. Plus, the golden statue is easy to find and makes for a great spot to meet everyone. Nearest MTR station: Wan Chai
Tamar Park
Grab your friends or family members and a picnic blanket to enjoy the fireworks from Tamar Park, a lovely green space with soft grass. This is a prime position right on the harbour, so it goes without saying that you won’t have it all to yourself! Nearest MTR station: Admiralty

IFC Rooftop
This is a well-known vantage point, so expect some crowds up here. However, it also offers a great location for those who want to keep the party going well into the new year with plenty of bars and clubs nearby! Nearest MTR station: Hong Kong
Wan Chai Waterfront Promenade
This roomy locale is right in the middle of it all and has a great harbour view. The open-air space also features some grassy hills, tunnels and neon lights that kids love to run around and explore. Nearest MTR station: Exhibition Centre
East Coast Park Precinct
While it’s a little bit away from the action, this spot does feature a 100-metre long breakwater. If you can manage to claim a place along here, you can be right on the water to watch the show. Nearest MTR station: Fortress Hill
The Peak
If you like some elevation in your fireworks lookout, then The Peak takes the cake. It’s a popular choice for watching the display from up above, though do note that some parts of the show can be obscured by the many tall buildings surrounding the harbour. We suggest getting to the top early and wandering down to find some of the best vantage points. Transport: Bus 15 or X15 from Exchange Square to Peak Galleria; or the Peak Tram from Garden Road; or hike up!
#3 Hong Kong fireworks schedules
National Day Celebrations
Marking the founding of the People’s Republic of China on 1 October, 1949, National Day is celebrated throughout Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. The festivities include Flag Raising Ceremonies and Parades, but the main attraction without a doubt is the 8pm fireworks display in Victoria Harbour. The 2026 display will run for around 23 minutes and feature tens of thousands of fireworks!
Chinese New Year Fireworks
Hong Kong’s first Chinese New Year fireworks celebration took place in 1982; fireworks displays had largely been banned up to that point, with the most recent event held to mark the visit of Queen Elizabeth II in 1975. The million dollar spectacle in January 1982 was sponsored by Jardine Matheson on the occasion of the company’s 150th anniversary.
Chinese New Year falls on 6 February in 2026, and a fireworks display will be scheduled for an evening around that date. This festival is one of the most exciting celebrations in Hong Kong – and fireworks play an essential part. So, expect a huge show on the harbour!
New Year’s Eve Countdown
Enjoy the countdown to the new year on 31 December with a huge fireworks display in the harbour. A clock projected onto the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre ticks down the last 30 seconds to the start of the midnight show.
