Searching for where to stay in Bangkok? Here are five things to know about two top-end Sukhumvit road hotels, ideal for business or a quick Bangkok weekend trip.
Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit
#1 First Impressions
Pulling into the Hyatt’s sleek and atmospheric entrance, we were greeted with a cheery “Sawasdee ka!” as the team escorted us in the lift to the Level 1 reception – a light, open and breezy space. We had arrived early and expected to leave our bags with the concierge. However, our room was fast-tracked in typical Thai service style and we were soon on our way.
#2 Rooms
Hyatt Place offers a good choice of modern, well-appointed and elegantly furnished rooms with plenty of flexible options for families. We stayed in a Specialty King Room which was perfect. The room is large 37 square metres with a comfortable king-size bed. At the other end of the room, a double sofa bed for our teenager. There’s plenty of storage, a compact bathroom with an excellent shower, a spacious desk with plenty of sockets for charging and fast, reliable Wi-Fi.
#3 Food, Drinks & Facilities
Looking at where to stay in Bangkok for fab food? Next to reception on Level 1 you’ll find The Market. It’s a convenient grab-“n”-go area where guests can buy snacks and drinks. The hotel provides some games, colouring sheets and crayons for kids here, so parents can relax with a cold drink from the fridge. On the other side is the elegantly furnished Lobby lounge with secluded sitting areas to enjoy drinks and a selection of Thai and Western snacks.
Breakfast is served in the Gallery Kitchen on Level 3. The buffet here had plenty of variety to suit us all. Including some delicious spicy dishes and a cracking made-to-order omelette.
On Level 19, you’ll find the leisure facilities. There’s a well-equipped gym and a lovely swimming pool with great city views and a sundeck area too.
Last but not least, don’t miss Aire Bar, the hotel’s stunning rooftop bar perfect for sundowners or a nightcap.
#4 Neighbourhood
The hotel is in the perfect location to explore Sukhumvit’s exciting shopping and entertainment area. Head to EM District, comprising three malls: Emporium, the newly opened EmSphere and, our favourite, EmQuartier. It’s an easy five-minute stroll along Soi 24 to reach Phrom Phong Skytrain station for exploring more of Bangkok and avoiding the infamous traffic.
#5 Final Word
Hyatt Place is a great base for a family holiday or Bangkok weekend trip. It has the ideal blend of well-priced four-star hotel amenities, comfort and convenience, and all with that beautiful Thai smile!

137 Pillars Suites & Suites Residences Bangkok
#1 First Impressions
Stepping inside the stunning lobby of 137 Pillars, a warm Thai welcome awaited us and we were instantly impressed with this luxurious, calm and tranquil space. We knew we were in for a treat at this Sukhumvit road hotel.
#2 Rooms
The hotel is split between 179 residences (akin to serviced apartments with fully equipped kitchens) offering studios, one- and two bedroom accommodation and 34 suites located on the higher floors.
We stayed in a one-bedroom Ayutthaya suite, which includes a maxi bar, living room with dining table, a walk in wardrobe and spacious bedroom. It was beautifully furnished in the hotel’s signature palette, with pops of pink and fuchsia throughout – special mention for the bathroom with its huge circular standalone bathtub, separate rainforest shower and Japanese loo! All suites have an extra-spacious balcony with a day bed (a favourite spot of ours), rocking chair and sitting area. Tech is top-notch with super-fast Wi-Fi, flatscreen TVs, Bose speakers and touch pads to control lights and AC.
#3 Suite Benefits
If your budget allows, opt for a suite and enjoy the additional Club-stye benefits – you won’t be disappointed. The Baan Borneo Club lounge on Level 26 is a cosy, elegant space offering an all-day breakfast until 5pm. The buffet is delicious, offering everything from hand carved jamon serrano and succulent smoked salmon to main dishes from Thailand and beyond – even a full English breakfast!
Suite guests can also enjoy complimentary golden hour cocktails on the Nimitr terrace (Level 27) overlooking the city at sunset. But it’s the 18-metre infinity pool on Level 33 that really blew us away. Suite guests have exclusive use of this stunning pool, with cabanas and two jacuzzis available 24 hours a day.
#4 Food, Drinks & Facilities
No one goes hungry or thirsty at 137 Pillars – there’s casual all-day dining at Bangkok Trading Post, light lunches and refreshing cool drinks at the Pool Bar and fine dining at Nimitr. At the latter, the chefs use freshly grown produce from local farmers to create elevated and refined Thai dishes. Our scrumptious four course “Tasting Journey” was delicious and memorable with impeccable service to boot.
Head to Level 27 to relax on the sundeck alongside another pool (this one a luxurious 25-metre infinity pool); it’s the perfect spot to soak up sweeping city views and sip a cocktail. Other facilities include the award-winning Nitra Serenity Spa, an excellent gym, a golf studio and driving range, a herb garden and kids’ play area.
#5 Final Word
We loved our stay at 137 Pillars – it would be easy to come for a Bangkok weekend or a few nights without even leaving the hotel. (If you do want to get out and about, there’s an hourly shuttle service to the nearby Skytrain station.) This is five-star hotel luxury at its best, highly recommended.
