Our review!
Expat Living’s KATE WOODBURY visited Humansa to see its health solutions first-hand, trialling the Future Health Program, which works as a longevity check-up. Here’s what she thought.
Why were you keen to take part in this session?
I was intrigued by Humana’s holistic approach to health and longevity; the combination of medical, wellness, diet and exercise ticked all my boxes. What’s more, all this takes place with one multidisciplinary team of doctors and health professionals under one roof – unique in Hong Kong.
Tell us about the location and the setup.
The bright and modern 14,000-square-foot space at K11 ATELIER is split between high-quality medical facilities including state-of-the-art equipment and a cutting-edge gym and fitness area. It’s an environment that’s more like a luxurious five-star hotel spa rather than a medical facility. Hues of green and cream exude a calming ambience throughout – and it also has stunning harbour views to boot.
Who led your session?
During my visit, I met several Humansa professionals including a wellness coach, dietitian, physiotherapist, personal trainer, nurse and radiographer. I was impressed by their expertise, knowledge and friendliness.
The Future Health Program is different from regular health checks. The team says that it focuses on a comprehensive longevity solution, with the aim of reversing customers’ biological age and preventing chronic diseases.
What did your session involve?
For my session, I would experience selected items from the H+ Membership Programme, Pearl level. A couple of days before my appointment, Humansa sent a medical and wellness questionnaire to complete and advised I should fast 10 hours prior to arriving.
My first appointment was an in-depth conversation with the wellness coach to discuss the questionnaire answers. This covered all aspects of my life including general health, emotional wellbeing, work/life balance, sleep, diet and exercise. Next up was a short visit with the nurse for blood work, blood pressure, height and weight before a consultation with the dietitian. I’ve been moving towards a more plant-based diet in the last six months and Humansa’s dietitian identified that I may be lacking in protein. This was a useful insight.
After a quick change into gym gear, I headed to the fitness area for my strength and stability assessment with the PT and physio team. The first stage was a 3D body scan using the state-of-the-art Visbody scanner to analyse my posture. The next 25 minutes or so were spent with the physio. I had mentioned a tight right hip in the questionnaire so he examined my hips and he taught me some stretching exercises.
What came next?
Moving into the gym, it was time for the VO2 Max test. The team clearly explained the process and once the mask was securely fitted, it was time to get started. I can’t say it’s an enjoyable experience – I found the mask quite claustrophobic, for example. But it does offer some really useful cardiovascular indicators, so it was certainly worthwhile.
Then came the Brain Health Screening, which took a few minutes. This AI model can detect the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s, which is another useful longevity metric. Incidentally, the technology used by the Humansa team in taking images of the retina was developed by the CUHK Medical Facility.
The final session was a full body DEXA x-ray for bone density and body composition. This was an easy 10-minute procedure and, yet again, offered some really useful health metrics.
How long were you there in total?
The visit took about three hours. Honestly, though, it flew by. The team kept my water bottle topped up throughout and offered a snack straight after the blood test, which was a thoughtful touch.
What did your return visit involve a few weeks later?
The follow-up session was led by the wellness coach who chatted through a comprehensive report. Humansa’s longevity assessment is categorised into their five pillars: physical function, cardio-metabolic function, cognitive function, mental wellbeing and nutritional wellbeing. The report summarised my current health along three health priorities. It then listed out detailed observations under each area along with actionable suggestions, all with a longevity lens. During the session, the personal trainer, physiotherapist and doctor also popped in to explain the results and answer my questions.
What are some of the things you learnt from your sessions?
Humansa’s unique approach is refreshingly proactive and there were some really useful insights on how I can improve my wellbeing and longevity. Overall, this was an excellent experience – the multidisciplinary team offer a truly personalised service, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking to invest in their health.
