National Ecology Day Thematic Exhibition 2026
1 September - 6 September
The Countryside Conservation Office (CCO) presents this event as part of the fourth National Ecology Day. The free six-day exhibition invite visitors to discover Hong Kong’s countryside, rural heritage and natural ecology through eight interactive zones combining art, music, technology and traditional culture.
Visitors can explore the stories of Hakka villages such as Kuk Po, Mui Tsz Lam and Lai Chi Wo through multimedia displays, while a ‘Village Hundred-Drawer Cabinet’ connects historic artefacts and traditional crafts with contemporary rural initiatives. A holographic Hakka dialect classroom, AI costume experience and interactive biodiversity display offers engaging ways to learn about village life, wildlife and local traditions. Another installation uses light projections to showcase Hong Kong’s butterflies and their habitats.
The programme also include photography and music events on 5 September. Fine-art landscape photographer Kelvin Yuen shares photographs of Double Haven and its surrounding countryside. Music audiences can watch a special screening of Tan Dun’s Cellphone Soundscape & Movement, filmed at Ap Chau, followed by live performances featuring countryside- and nature-themed works. A student sharing session on 6 September presents creative works inspired by countryside visits and is open by invitation to relevant schools and organisations.
The exhibition is intended to encourage greater appreciation of rural culture, biodiversity and environmental conservation through accessible, family-friendly experiences. National Ecology Day has been observed annually on 15 August since 2023.
