Looking to add some colour, comfort and texture to your home? The Altfield Interiors showroom is a good place to start. You’l find the best collection of curtain and upholstery fabrics, wallpapers and cushions in Hong Kong, plus more finishing touches like lamps, lights and lampshades. Managing director AMANDA CLARK gives us four insights into this showroom in Central.
#1 Open to all
“Unlike many international multi-line design showrooms around the world, our Hong Kong showroom is open to the public and not just to professional interior designers and architects. We’re happy to help retail clients and give guidance to help them navigate the different price points and technical aspects of textiles and wall coverings.”
#2 Updated stock
“Because of this, we also try to ensure that the showroom is updated regularly with new displays, and products that can be bought off the shelf – for example, an ever-changing selection of cushions.
“We select colour stories, themes and seasonal weights that allow clients to refresh an interior easily with fabrics from popular new collections from our brands. We also try to have an exciting selection of small yardages in stock – enough for a group of cushions or to reupholster a headboard, for example – at special pricing.”
#3 Lots of lights, table lamps and lampshades
“There’s an extensive lighting selection in the Altfield Interiors showroom – for instance, we represent two big names from London: Vaughan, with its classic and wide-ranging decorative collection, and Porta Romana, a very cultured and avant-garde maker, ideal for the more contemporary home. Both brands offer table lamps and wall and ceiling lamps, along with custom-order lampshades of excellent quality.
“We always display a wide group of our own porcelain lamps, too, with a wide choice of lampshades in stock in the showroom; a cream, pleated, 16-inch shade starts at $750. Many of the older craftsmen who ran lampshade-making studios in HK have retired in the last few years, so access to good shades matters to our repeat clients.”
#4 Display furniture for reference
“Space is always an issue in Hong Kong interiors, so we have begun to make a few smaller pieces to always have on display in the showroom, such as stools, ottomans and side chairs. With extra frames available in the warehouse, these can also be made up quite quickly in a custom-chosen fabric for clients as well.
“Upholstery fabrics are designed to be stretched and under tension, so they usually look so much more interesting in their upholstered state; because of this, we try to show a variety of small upholstered pieces to help advise our retail clients on the types of fabric to consider.”
Altfield Interiors is at 1101 Nine Queen’s Road, Central.
