There’s more of a buzz than usual at the start of the 2026/27 year at Kellett School, with the opening of the school’s dedicated new Sixth Form Centre in Kowloon Bay. We hear the verdict on the university-style space from a teacher and a student.
Mark Stacey – Head of Sixth Form at Kellett
Location of the Sixth Form Centre
It’s located at The Bay Hub, Kowloon Bay. As the crow flies, there is less than 50 metres between the Sixth Form Centre and our main Kowloon Bay campus. Walking from one to the other across the secure pedestrian footbridge takes around five minutes door to door – and even less for our student athletes!
For those who are familiar with the global location system “what3words” (what3words.com), the entrance can be found at ///roost.turned.aura.
Layout and facilities
The new Sixth Form Centre comprises 40,000 square feet of university-style spaces. There are 10 classrooms, designed for 16 students, the maximum size for Sixth Form classes at Kellett Kowloon Bay.
There are also several specialised classrooms. Oracy is promoted through a lecture theatre, Harkness room and amphitheatre for informal meetings. The first floor includes a library, exam rooms, over 50 silent study spaces, along with pods and separate small group meeting rooms, plus a dedicated PE classroom with integrated exercise machines, while on the second floor there’s a social and study space.
Design features
The Sixth Form Centre takes its lead from some of the university facilities we have visited in recent years, notably the libraries at NYU and the University of Aberdeen, as well as classrooms at Carnegie-Mellon, Manchester and HKUST.
All the classrooms are flooded with natural light and are equipped with white board panels built into the walls to promote collaboration. There are extensive spaces for individual meetings with students used by our university and careers counsellors, as well as their tutors and teachers.
Student reaction
Our first Sixth Form cohort started using the facilities in August. When I watched them come into the building for the first time, the way they carried themselves changed to fit in with the young professional people in the rest of the building. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. In particular, students are valuing the range of study areas, which can suit the study they are doing or even the mood they are in.
Watching the students arrive and explore the space, it’s clear that so much of it will pay dividends in their learning and friendships. On a day-to-day basis, we can see them loving the sense of being in a more grown-up environment.

First impressions
It’s really big! There are two floors, with classrooms, study areas and places to relax or clear your head. There’s space for us to hang out with our friends, but also a different area that provides quiet and allows for focus in a stressful final year!
Best feature
The study areas. I’m someone that likes to be in a quiet area when I study, so I can make the most out of the time that I have, and the new Sixth Form Centre has dozens of spots for this. On the other hand, if you’re someone who prefers to study with others, there are areas for that as well! It’s a great space for a variety of students with different study preferences.
Graduation plans
I am currently studying Chinese, History and Maths, and I hope to go on to study Chinese at university in the UK. I’m super interested not only in learning the language, but also discovering more about China’s culture, politics and history. If possible, I would also love to take a gap year and see the world, as well as starting to make a difference through teaching and volunteering.
