Haven Design – Mary Wong, Design Director
Tell us about your interior design services and how they can help our readers?
Our full-service interior design practice provides tailor-made solutions for residential and commercial projects. We’re driven by the passion to articulate the unique story for each project, combining aesthetic and functional concerns. Most importantly, we cater to every need the client may have during the project and beyond.
By getting to know the character of our clients, we come up with a design that not only appeals to them, but also supports the way they live and relax in a functional way.
Can you share some insights from recent interior design projects?
The owners of a Wan Chai home wanted the space to reflect their love of Asian design aesthetics. We used timber for texture, warmth and harmony, pops of colour to accentuate the owners’ unique artworks, and furniture and décor choices that resonated with the aesthetic, including upcycled pieces.
We also worked recently on a home in Stanley, where we replaced the white walls with a bold colour scheme and old flooring with wood-grain vinyl, to reflect the owners’ bubbly personalities and active lifestyles.
The Haven Design team also created a cosy sanctuary in Mid-Levels for a retired couple. Textures and colours were used to create a sense of serene luxury – from stylish fittings including Finnish-engineered wood flooring and artisanal veneers from Italy.
Do you have a specific style?
A key focus is creating interiors that are not only beautiful, but also reflect the unique story of the clients – their personalities, habits and aspirations. So it’s not a specific style, but rather it’s linked to the people who live in that home.

The Editors Company – a word with the team
Tell us about your interior design services and how they can help our readers?
At The Editors Company, we help people create homes they actually love living in, without needing to renovate.
Our service is especially helpful for renters, expats, families and busy professionals who want their space to feel more considered, but still rental-friendly. Much of traditional interior design is geared toward homeowners who are ready for major renovations. We’re a little different. We focus on styling, layout, furniture, décor and all the finishing touches that make a space feel like home.
Can you share some insights from recent renovation projects?
Because we focus more on rental-friendly home styling than renovation, a lot of our recent work has been about helping clients transform their homes without any structural changes.
One recent project was for a client moving to Hong Kong from overseas. They hadn’t landed yet, so we worked with them remotely to understand their style, lifestyle and what they needed from the space. From there, we planned the layout, sourced the furniture and homeware, and helped pull everything together before they arrived.
Setting up a home in Hong Kong can be a lot, especially if you’re relocating and trying to sort work, schools, admin and a completely new routine. Having someone handle the home setup means you can arrive to a space that already feels thought through, instead of spending the first few months living around boxes and temporary furniture.
Do you have a specific style?
We don’t really have one set style, and we like it that way. Some clients come to us wanting something calm and minimal, others want colour, pattern and personality. Our aim is to help people figure out what feels right for them, then make it work in their actual home.
What do you love most about being an interior designer in Hong Kong?
Hong Kong homes always keep us on our toes, in the best way. There are many interesting quirks in older flats; it makes the work more creative because we really think about how people live and how to make the space work for them.

Perry Contracting – Jenny Perry
Tell us about your interior design services and how they can help our readers?
We transform spaces into personalised, functional, comfortable environments, taking the stress out of home improvement for homeowners. We can design and project manage the whole process to save you time, and we’ll also help define a realistic budget and provide alternatives to keep the project on track.
Can you share some insights from recent renovation projects?
Our recent renovation projects have shown a significant shift away from cold, mass-produced aesthetics toward homes that prioritise being bright and cosy, with an efficient layout and a warm design involving lots of wood.
One was a typical HK townhouse – very narrow and long, with windows in the front and back, and houses on each side. We created a lightwell in the middle to brighten each floor, changed the stair railings to glass with a wooden handle for warmth, made better use of the kitchen space with a kitchen island, new cabinets and a smart water filter providing hot, cold and sparkling water. And, with the owners’ input, we designed an Italian-style mosaic of tiles to give a personal feel.
As an interior designer, do you have a specific aim or style?
While many designers stick to one “look”, my aim is to create smart living spaces. It doesn’t matter what style you want – the space and the layout have to work first, and they have to suit the owner’s needs. We’re creating a family home, and while we want it to feel quietly luxurious, it’s not a showroom.
I believe a room should look beautiful in a photo but feel even better when you are actually sitting in it with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine.
What do you love most about being an interior designer in Hong Kong?
Hong Kong forces you to be incredibly creative – it’s a challenge you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
In some cases, we have to solve the puzzle of a 400-square-foot flat, using every single inch to create the right layout, sometimes adding a mezzanine floor or smart cabinetry to add space. Other clients have a big space that needs an open layout, connecting kitchen, living room and a beautiful garden.
Creating a space where someone feels they can finally “breathe” after a long day at work is the most rewarding part of the job.
